old story

In our city we had the Street Queens, 15-16 years old girls who controlled all our teenage life. Every year we had the new Queen, chosen from the best girls in the city.
Nothing could happen without their approval, no fight, no serious talk. And no one could touch the Street Queen. One time some boy made a comment about her clothes or tried to touch it and for one year no one talk to him.
The Street Queen was wearing only short tops, miniskirts or mini dresses (no pants), high hills with big hair and lots of make up. And only she was allowed to go to school like this, may be without the make up. The teachers could not say anything, because she was the "highest power" for us, the school kids.
All the Street Queens were always standing out from the crowd, they were noticeable even for people who didn't know anything. They walked straight, looked straight, never looked down and they smiled. They were immediately you best friends who you could trust. If it was some kind of injustice everyone could talk to that girl and solve the problem, because our street law was prohibited any kind of discrimination, we all were equal in some way.
I remember our first the Street Queen. I was in grade 1, she was in in grade 8 and looked like a real Queen to me. She smiled and gave me a candy.
Once a year we voted for the Queen. We had a book with names and had to put a mark near the name of the girl we liked. Every year we had different girls, and we knew all of them.
They were really beautiful Street Queens at that time and I am sure still are.
